Rules of Poker - Online Poker Rooms.
Almost all variants of poker satisfy the following definition. Here are some universal information on the basic rules of poker and how the poker hands are ranked (which hand is the highest and lowest).
Poker is a game in which players bet into a collective pot during the course of one poker hand, and the player holding the best hand at the end of the betting wins therefore collecting the pot. During a betting round, each remaining player in turn could take one of the four following actions:
1 Check, a bet of zero that does not forfeit interest in the pot (only available if the first player says it first).
2 Bet or raise, a nonzero bet greater than preceding bets that all successive poker players must match, exceed or else forfeit all interest in the pot.
3 Call, a nonzero bet equal to a preceding bet that allows a player's interest in the pot.
4 Fold, a surrender of interest in the pot in response to another poker player's bet, accompanied by the loss of one's cards and previous bets.
Betting will proceed in a circle until each player has either called all bets or folded. Poker is played with a standard 4-suit 52-card deck. The ace normally plays high, but can sometimes play low, as explained below. At the showdown, the players still remaining compare their hands according to the following rankings:
Straight flush, five run of cards in sequence and in the same suit, such as 87654 of spades. Ranked by the top card, so that AKQJT is the highest straight flush, this is also called a royal flush. The ace can also play low to make 5432A, the lowest straight flush.
Four of a kind, four cards of the same rank accompanied by another (any) card, like 55553. Ranked by the four cards, so that 8888Q is higher than 7777K, and then ranked by the side card, so that 6666A beats 6666K.
Full house, three of a kind accompanied by a pair, such as 333JJ. The cards that determine which hand is the highest first is the three of a kind, so that 66622 is higher than 55522, the pair is then ranked, so that 555AA beats 555QQ.
Flush, five cards of the same suit in a hand, such as KJ963 of clubs. The hand is ranked by the top card, and then the next until the last card, so that KJ863 is higher than KJ853. The suit is not used to break ties.
Straight, five cards in sequence, like 98765. The ace again plays either high or low, making AKQJT and 5432A. Straights like 32AKQ are not allowed.
Three of a kind, three cards of the same number and two random cards, like KKK84. these are ranked by the three cards of the same value, so JJJ96 beats 999KJ. It is then ranked by the two random cards, so JJJKQ beats JJJKT.
Two pair, one pair of cards with the same value, then another pair of cards with a different value and then any random card, like QQ663. Ranked by the top pair, then the bottom pair and finally the single cards, so that QQ556 beats any of JJTTA, QQ22J, and QQ554.
One pair, pair of cards accompanied by three random cards, such as JJ953. Ranked by the pair, followed by each random card in turn, so that QQ954 beats QQ956.
High card, a hand that does not qualify for one of the better hands above, such as QJ954 of mixed suits. These are ranked by the top card, then the second card and so on.
